GPS ride tracking

The horse riding tracker built for real rides.

Runners have their tracking apps. Cyclists have theirs. Gallopa is the GPS ride tracker made for equestrians: it understands gaits, works on remote trails with no signal, and runs on your iPhone or Apple Watch while you keep both hands on the reins.

What Gallopa tracks on every ride

  • Route: your full path on a live map that follows you as you ride.
  • Distance and duration: how far and how long, from mounting up to dismount.
  • Speed: current, average and maximum speed, in km/h or mph.
  • Elevation: total climb, plus a speed and elevation chart you can scrub through afterwards.
  • Gaits: time spent in walk, trot, canter and gallop, detected automatically. Read how on the gait analysis page.
  • Heart rate: when you ride with an Apple Watch.

Everything lands in your riding logbook automatically: map, stats, gait breakdown, the horse you rode and your notes.

Start it and forget it

Tap Start, pocket your phone, and ride. Gallopa keeps recording in the background with the screen locked. There are no laps to press, no gait buttons to toggle, nothing to babysit mid-ride. When you hop off, your ride summary is waiting: route, stats and a gait timeline, ready for a note like "first clean flying change on the left rein".

Built for trails with no signal

GPS does not need mobile data, and neither does Gallopa. The tracker records your entire ride offline: route, distance, speed, elevation and gaits. If you are so deep in the forest that map tiles cannot load, Gallopa draws your live route on a clean canvas instead, and swaps the full map back in when you return to coverage. Nothing is lost, ever.

Every discipline, every ride type

Tag each ride as a trail ride, hack, lesson, flatwork session, jumping, endurance or other. The tags keep your logbook organised and make it easy to compare like with like: schooling sessions against schooling sessions, hacks against hacks.

Share the ride, keep the data

Turn any ride into a share card with your route and stats, sized for Instagram Stories, posts or messages. And your data stays yours: rides are stored on your device, and you can export any ride as CSV or PDF. Read more in the privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

What does a horse riding tracker app record?

Gallopa records your full GPS route on a map, distance, duration, current, average and maximum speed, elevation gain, and how long you spent in walk, trot, canter and gallop. On Apple Watch it also records your heart rate.

Does the ride tracker work without phone signal?

Yes. GPS positioning works independently of mobile data, so Gallopa records rides perfectly on remote trails. If map tiles cannot load, the app draws your live route on a clean canvas instead, and the full map appears once you are back online.

Can I keep tracking with the app in my pocket or the screen off?

Yes. Tracking continues in the background while your phone is in your pocket, and a watch ride keeps recording with the screen off for the whole session.

How accurate is GPS for horse riding?

Modern iPhone and Apple Watch GPS is typically accurate to within a few metres outdoors, which is more than enough for route, distance and speed on a ride. Gallopa also smooths GPS readings so a single noisy point does not distort your speeds or gaits.
